Everyone ought to exercise. Everyone
outght to move. Physical activity is for all
of us. Is 5K running or rappelling up a cliff required? Nope! Walking is superb.
Muscle strengthening is just right. Gardening when the season is right
is wonderful. No gyms are even necessary for the physical
activity that will keep you feeling good. If a knee or back
injury happens – and they happen to the best of us! –
your Vancouver chiropractor at Vancouver Disc Centers is ready to get you back to moving with gentle, safe spinal distraction manipulation…and
knee distraction for the familiar matter of knee pain!
EXERCISE IN ANY WEATHER
A study conducted in Finland in 2017
followed the physical activity participation of 18-64 year
olds and 65+ year-olds. Researchers found that the 18-64 year
olds met the recommended guidelines for physical activity – 42%
of men and 39% of women – better than the 65+ year olds – 26% men and 20%
women. What were the most popular interests people performed throughout that time? Cleaning/maintenance
work, walking, and stair climbing. What exercises did they perform
most consistently throughout the year regardless of
age/gender/season? Muscle-strengthening exercises and workout. Swimming,
skiing, gardening, jogging, and stair climbing were more age/gender/season
dependent. The researchers finally came to the conclusion
that there are particular conditioning activities people will do.
Proposals for physical activity recommendations must use
those to inspire the most physical activity possible. (1) What do you like to do? Vancouver Disc Centers is confident our Vancouver chiropractic patients and
their families can discover exercises
to do any time of year! Heck, even in snow, a good snowball toss can inspire
activity!
OLYMPIC EXERCISE
Winter and summer, Olympians move! They’re really like us though their training may be a bit more intense. Elite athletes like the Olympians cope with
pain and depression and keep moving. A survey of Olympians
from the 1948 to 2018 games found that 32.4% describe
pain today, and 35.9% have functional limitations they connect to their Olympics’ days.
Knee (20.6% lasting 120 days median) and lumbar
spine (13.1% lasting 100 days) were the top two injuries Olympians
suffered in their training days. Depression was recounted
by 6.6% of them. (2) Vancouver Disc Centers presents these Olympians’
stats with our Vancouver chiropractic patients letting
them know they’re not alone in their pain struggles.
